About this workshop

Introduction

Second language learners need to be able to communicate, and in order to communicate they need to know a wide range of words, as well as how to use them. In this workshop we will consider the following questions:
1. What is vocabulary learning?
2. What does it mean to know a word?
3.Why is it important to focus on vocabulary in L2 teaching?

We will also review previous research on methods for teaching vocabulary and realistic expectations for vocabulary learning. Finally, we will discuss concrete recommendations for vocabulary instruction that is based on empirical research.
